Create a Project
Refer to this guide when you need to set up a new Project.
QUICK TIP: Most Project settings are dynamic and can be altered after Project creation, with the exception of DRM and Forensic Watermarking.
Considerations before creating a new Project
Before creating a new Project, it's helpful to consider the following:
- What is the Project for?
- Who needs access?
- Do recipients need to watch, review, download, upload media?
- Which Project mode best matches the workflow?
- What security settings are required?
- Should feedback be enabled, and should it be private or collaborative?
How to Set Up a New Project
- First, confirm that you are working in the correct Organization.
- Go to the Admin workspace and select New Project.
- Enter a Project name.
- Next, determine security settings.
- Determine if your project requires Watermarks (see definitions below).
- Enable Digital Rights Management now if the Project requires it (see definition below). This action cannot be undone or applied retroactively after project creation.
- Next, configure more general settings.
- Choose whether to enable Feedback, and select either Private (best for Theater-mode or screeners where comments are visible only to the Project Team) or Collaborative (best for Workspace mode where feedback is visible to everyone with review access).
- Add/create Project Tags, optional for future filtering/organization
- Enable Reviewer notification settings as needed.
- Choose the Project mode that matches your workflow: Theater Mode or Workspace Mode.
- Create the Project.
Once you’ve created a new Project, you can further customize your workspace by adding details such as a poster image, banner image, and description.

Digital Rights Management (DRM)
DRM encrypts and protects a video file. When you press play, your device checks with a license server to confirm that you are authorized to view it. If approved, a secure player decrypts the video for playback. DRM is designed to restrict unauthorized playback, screen-sharing, and screen-recording. Depending on the device and viewing environment, attempted capture may display a black screen.
IMPORTANT: Once a Project has enabled DRM, the action cannot be reversed.
Watermarks
ScreenKey offers a few different watermark options depending on the traceability needs of your project.
Visible Viewer Watermarks identify the specific viewer. Basic Viewer Watermarks display the authorized viewer’s email address over media anywhere within the screen's invisible 3x3 grid. Advanced Viewer Watermarks additionally display the viewer’s email, IP address, date watched, and time watched prefixed to the four corners of the screen.
Visible Project Watermarks display the same custom text watermark to all viewers- such as PROPERTY OF- in addition to any viewer watermarks enabled.
Forensic Watermarks are available only on request by reaching out to contact@screenkey.com. They act like an invisible thumbprint within the media itself. If content is leaked or distributed without authorization, the watermark can be analyzed to help trace the source and provide an audit trail.
