Sharing your project: Secure Sharing
Secure Sharing is the most secure way to share a Project with Reviewers in ScreenKey.
With Secure Sharing, each invitation is created for a specific person. The invited Reviewer must claim the invitation using a ScreenKey account with the same email address the invitation was sent to. This makes Secure Sharing the best option when access should be tied to an individual Reviewer.
Use Secure Sharing when you need strong control over who can access your Project, when they can access it, what they can see, and what they can do.
When to use Secure Sharing
Secure Sharing is best for controlled review workflows where access should be limited to named individuals.
Use Secure Sharing for:
- Screeners
- Sales review
- Distribution review
- Awards campaigns
- Executive review
- Compliance review
- Private stakeholder review
- Any workflow where access should be tied to a specific person
Secure Sharing is recommended when security, accountability, and individual Reviewer tracking are important.
How Secure Sharing works
When you invite someone using Secure Sharing, ScreenKey creates a unique sharing record for that Reviewer.
The Reviewer must claim the invitation using a ScreenKey account that matches the email address on the invitation. This helps ensure that the invitation is used by the intended recipient.
Each Secure Sharing invitation can include its own access settings, including:
- Sharing Window
- Content access
- Download permissions
- Email invitation settings
- Digital watermark settings
- Reviewer tags
Invite Reviewers with Secure Sharing

To share a Project using Secure Sharing:
- Open the Project you want to share.
- Select the Sharing tab.
- Choose Secure Sharing.
- Select Invite Reviewer
- Enter the Reviewer’s email address.
- Set the Reviewer’s Sharing Window.
- Review any advanced sharing options.
- Send the invitation.
You can invite up to 10 Reviewers at a time using the standard Secure Sharing flow.
Invite Reviewers in bulk

For larger sharing lists, use the advanced sharing options to upload a .csv file.
Bulk invites are useful when you need to share a Project with many Reviewers, such as buyers, awards voters, sales contacts, executives, or distribution partners.
To invite Reviewers in bulk:
- Open the Project.
- Select the Sharing tab.
- Choose Secure Sharing.
- Open the Advanced Sharing Options tab.
- Upload your
.csvlist of Reviewers. - Review the sharing settings.
- Send the invitations.
Access Windows

Each Secure Sharing invitation requires a Access Window.
The Access Window controls when the Reviewer can access the Project. This lets you limit viewing access to a specific period of time.
An Access Window can be set to:
- A specific date range
- A future access window
- Doesn’t expire
Use Doesn’t expire when the Reviewer should have ongoing access to the Project.
Use a custom future range when access should only be available during a specific review period, campaign window, festival window, sales window, or screening period.
Advanced Secure Sharing options

Secure Sharing includes advanced options that let you customize each Reviewer’s access.
Depending on your Project settings, advanced options may include:
- Limiting access to specific content
- Allowing downloads
- Turning automated email invitations on or off
- Customizing digital watermarking
- Adding Reviewer tags
These options are useful when different Reviewers need different levels of access within the same Project.
Limit access to specific content

By default, a Reviewer has full access to all media in the Project.
Under advanced Secure Sharing options, you can limit a Reviewer’s access to specific content within the Project. This is useful when a Reviewer should only see certain folders, files, episodes, cuts, versions, or materials.
For example, you may want to:
- Give a buyer access to only selected titles or episodes
- Share only specific cuts with an executive
- Limit a compliance Reviewer to required materials
- Share different assets with different regions or partners
- Give access to a trailer without sharing the full Project
Limiting access to specific content lets you keep one Project organized while controlling exactly what each Reviewer can see.
Allow downloads

Under advanced Secure Sharing options, you can choose whether a Reviewer is allowed to download media from the Project.
When downloads are enabled, the Reviewer downloads the original uploaded media file.
Only enable downloads when the Reviewer needs the source file and your workflow allows it. For most secure screener workflows, downloads should remain disabled unless there is a specific reason to allow them.
Automated email invitations
By default, ScreenKey sends an automated email invitation to each invited Reviewer.
This email lets the Reviewer know they have been invited to access the Project and gives them a way to claim the invitation.
If you prefer to send the access link through your own email, messaging system, or distribution process, you can turn automated email invitations off.
Use this option when you want to:
- Send a more personalized message
- Include the ScreenKey access link in your own email
- Coordinate outreach through a sales, awards, or distribution campaign
- Control exactly when the Reviewer receives the invitation
- Use your own communication tools while still keeping Secure Sharing enabled
Turning off automated invitations does not make the invitation public. The Secure Sharing record is still tied to the invited Reviewer’s email address.
Digital watermarking

If digital watermarking is enabled for the Project, you can customize the watermark for individual Reviewers. By default, the digital watermark uses the Reviewer’s email address. To edit a Reviewer’s watermark, open the Secure Sharing tab, find the Reviewer, select the ellipsis menu next to their record, and choose Sharing Management.
You may want to use a custom watermark when the watermark should display different identifying information, such as:
- Reviewer name
- Company name
- Campaign name
- Region
- Custom internal label
Digital watermarking can help discourage unauthorized sharing and make each viewing experience more accountable.
Reviewer tags

Reviewer tags help you organize and manage Reviewers.
You can add tags to Reviewers in a similar way that tags can be added to Projects. If a Project has many Reviewers, tags make it easier to group, filter, and manage them.
For example, you might tag Reviewers by:
- Company
- Region
- Campaign
- Review group
- Buyer type
- Awards group
- Internal team
- Distribution partner
Reviewer tags are especially helpful for large sharing lists.
Secure Sharing vs. Share Links
Secure Sharing is different from a Share Link.
With Secure Sharing, access is tied to a specific invited Reviewer. The Reviewer must claim the invitation using a ScreenKey account with the same email address.
With a Share Link, anyone who has the link can use it. Share Links provide easier access, but they are not as secure as Secure Sharing.
Use Secure Sharing when access should be limited to specific people.
Use Share Links only when convenience is more important than person-specific security.
Best practices
Before sending Secure Sharing invitations, review the Project and confirm that:
- The correct media has been uploaded
- Folders are organized clearly
- Security settings are correct
- Reviewer access windows are set correctly
- Download permissions match your workflow
- Watermarking settings are correct
- Automated email invitations are enabled or disabled as needed
- Reviewer tags have been added if needed
For highly sensitive screeners, use Secure Sharing instead of Share Links.
Summary
Secure Sharing is the most secure way to share a Project with Reviewers.
Each invitation is tied to a specific person, and the Reviewer must claim the invitation using a ScreenKey account with the same email address. Secure Sharing also gives Team Members control over access windows, content access, downloads, watermarking, email invitations, and Reviewer tags.
Use Secure Sharing whenever access needs to be controlled, tracked, and limited to specific Reviewers.
